NewsBOYS TEAMS LEAD THE WAY AT 2008 REGIONALS! 7/1/08Back from the Regionals with heads held high. A great learning experience, and a ton of fun was experienced by the Northern Steel teams that participated in regional action during the weekend.
All Northern Steel teams played at the highest level in their respective groups. In this case termed the "Super Group". However, the boys teams were the story of the weekend playing some attractive soccer and staying alive until the final day.
Participating in their first regional were the U13B. Starting strong with a win over powerful Chicago Magic. The strength and speed of the next two teams may have been too much as they dropped their last two games, one of which by a late goal. The U13B ended up 1-2 on the weekend.
Setting the tone for the boys' program were the U14B team. Not losing a game, but not enough points to advance. The organization and energy of this team was excellent all weekend long. One more goal for, and they would have been in the finals. So close, one more finish could have done it as the boys only gave up one goal all weekend. The U14B ended up 1-0-2. Undefeated.
The U17B were playing some of the most attractive soccer of the tournament and gained notice by many onlookers. The flair and poise they demostrated was terrific. Again, not enough points to advance to the final. The U17B finished the weekend 1-1-1.
The U18 Girls were the story for the girls side of the program. They played in the Region 1 tournament approximately 20 hours away in Maine. Much like the U14B they finished undefeated and were alive until the final day. One more goal for would have been enough for advancement. The U18G finished the regional 1-0-2 undefeated. This capped an excellent season that had no losses for this team in any competition. What a way to end their time with Steel. Congratulations ladies, you have done this club proud.
The U12G were playing in their first ever regional. Although they didn't advance, they were able to get one positive result and learned many lessons. I'm sure quite a bit of fun was had. The U12G finished 0-2-1.
The U14G were in an extremely difficult group and lost two games by the odd goal. The experience was the best teacher. With many lessons learned and pride intact, I'm sure we will see this group back in the thick of it next year. The U14G finished 0-3.
Thanks to all of those that made the long trips. It was hopefully a great experience for all. The exposure to this type of competition is what we are all in it for.
Thanks to the entire Northern Steel family for a great 2007-2008 year. It has truly been one of the strongest ever for our club. Next season begins in 6 weeks. Enjoy your time off! Back |
