General InformationNorthern Steel Soccer is a progressive premier level club that aims to place players with the highest level coaches in the area. An emphasis is placed on technical and tactical learning in an engaging environment. This does not end on the field as we strive to support our players in a manner that promotes achievement in the classroom as well as every day life. Our staff is of the highest caliber and understands the process of youth development at all levels. Northern Steel annually places many of its participants on college teams throughout the United States. Academy ProgramThe academy program is for players between the ages of 9-11 years old. Academy training is based on an introduction of skill, technique, tactics and physical well being. This is accomplished in an environment that emphasizes learning and growth and not winning at all costs. Although competition is an integral part of the learning process it is not the keystone of development. The Academy sessions are held at the Beacon Fields. Indoor academy sessions are held at both the Family Sports Center and the 3H training facility. All academy teams play in the GLA League in the Spring and Fall seasons. Academy teams practice twice a week in the Spring and Fall outdoor seasons. Academy teams also practice twice a week inside during November and December and once a week January, February and March.
U12-U14 ProgramThe intermediate programs are used to continue the technical and tactical teaching but also to introduce the ideas of competition and achievement. It is important at these ages to start quality soccer habits. All intermediate program participants are expected to make a year long commitment as it is a 10 month program. The program begins in August and ends in June. Northern Steel teams in these age groups participate in the GLA League during the Fall and Spring seasons and also compete for the Penn West State Cup in June. These age groups practice twice a week during the Fall, Winter 1 and Spring Seasons. During the Winter 2 Season, teams practice once a week and play games once a week. All outdoor practice and home games are held at the Beacon Fields, while indoor practices are held at either the Family Sports Center or the 3H training facility.
U15-U18 ProgramThe senior programs are the last portion of the Northern Steel Learning Cycle. This time period is important for the player to create healthy living habits and become more independent. Technical and tactical teaching continues in conjunction with the ideas of achievement and competition. However, this time period is important for the promotion of the individual as well as the team for college placement. Incorporated into the normal league and tournament structure are “showcase tournaments” that permit the college coach to recruit our players. All U15-U18 teams participate in the GLA League as well as the Penn West State Cup. Showcases attended are up to the individual team and coach with board approval. The goal of these teams is to reach the US Club Soccer Regional Tournament and extend the possibility of making it to US Club Nationals. All teams officially begin in January and run through June or longer depending upon success. All outdoor training sessions and home games are held at the Beacon Fields, while indoor training is held at either the Family Sports Center or the 3H training facility.
